OceanJ founder Gail recently attended one of the UK’s leading trade fares and, alongside discovering new and exciting collections to share with you here at www.oceanj.co.uk, she also learnt about new trends that we can all expect to see this year.
We caught up with Gail to get the rundown on the key trends for 2019.
“Spring Fair in Birmingham is an incredible event, thousands of square feet of fabulous goodies that are all displayed in fabulous stands…. Everyone hoping to catch your eye (and your purse strings). From Spring colours to what we will be decorating our homes with come Christmas 2019, there is every possible season, trend, fashion, colour, texture and pattern on show.
‘So what did I learn? There is a trend for homewares to shift toward more historical styles, darker wood is going to be popular and ornamental accessories will be influenced by Dutch Blue and Victoriana.
(Our poncho is absolutely on trend).
‘Future looking colours are a big trend moment, with everything from cutlery to disposable bags in soft pastel shades that are futuristically faded, hinting at a world where recycling is becoming ever more relevant.
(our gorgeous scarf is perfectly on trend)
‘Our ever increasing social media dominated world was represented by colours and shades that suggest realism whilst acknowledging our ‘unreal’ online world.
‘Honesty and fun with a definite nod to a maximalist approach was a bold trend, this is all about boldly mixing up colours, patterns and textures be it in clothing or home wares.
(Powder socks are the absolute must have on trend collection)
‘Yes Christmas was featured and it was fabulous with the traditional red, green and gold being much more muted than of late, with the addition of wood and pine cones creating a link with nature for a more ‘real’ festive feel. But, add into the mix blue, every possible shade, it’s going to be a major element of your festive decorating this coming December.
‘One thing that I found really fascinating was the key gift ideas for 2019. Anything related to travel is top of the list, from passport holders to memory books and more. Gifts that help us have our own space, like silencing headphones are seen as a key gift trend this year. Candles and diffusers continue to dominate all trends as they provide a sense of ‘nesting’ to our homes. Everything fitness and wellness orientated is a big growing trend and personalised jewellery is also very ‘on trend’ with statements emblazoned on bracelets and necklaces proving to be a continuing must have.

‘Bespoke, personalised and own label goods are also seeing a surge in popularity throughout 2019 with shoppers actively seeking out products that link to their preferred shopping channels.
‘Food for thought and lots to organise but it’s refreshing to know that OceanJ has been moving toward lots of these trends as our site has developed over the last few years. Watch this space for lots of exciting new additions to our online emporium. Spring fair has inspired me, and I hope in turn to inspire you, and help you when it comes to your gift purchasing and for those moments when you want to treat yourself.
‘Thank you for your continued support of www.oceanj.co.uk, here’s looking at a fabulous, on trend and exciting year together”.
