It’s that time of the year again …. The holidays are coming.
Gail shares some fabulous OceanJ Kids ideas for you…. plus a few memories of her own childhood.
“It’s that time of the year again, The holidays are coming” says Gail.
“I have fond memories of school holidays and how much fun my siblings and I had.
‘Today’s children have a different set of rules to live by, but there are still elements of my childhood that are as relevant today as your kids desire to have a mobile phone or tablet with them at all times, here are some new / old ideas for your children this coming summer break”.
‘I used to love getting my bag sorted for a day out during the holidays. I’d borrow one of Mum’s shopping bags (the precursor to tote bags) and fill it full of everything I would need for a day out in the garden with my friends and siblings.
‘Jewellery was a must, not the good stuff of course, but I rifled through the everyday collection in Mum’s magical [jewellery] box so that I could act all grown up wearing an assortment of necklaces and bracelets, how very grown up I felt.
‘To add to the grown up feel of the day my friends and I used to have (the obligatory) tea party with our collection of dolls and soft toys, there was always a teddybear, a Snoopy, lots of dolls and [us] girls being every so proper serving imaginary tea whilst tucking into sandwiches and cake that had been specially prepared for our ‘day out’.
‘The boys would be just elsewhere in the garden waging war on the dinosaurs that had returned to earth specifically to go into battle with the vast collection of ‘Action Man’ figures the gang had amassed.
‘Simple times, fun times and character building moments shared with lifelong friends.
‘Of course it’s very different now and kids are more demanding and want more from their school break, but there is still that magical moment of innocence that can be captured (on your iphone) when they are outside playing like children should play.
‘That’s why this collection is perfect, it fits the moment whilst harking back to simple times.
‘The rucksacks from Affenzahn are practical but fun, they can be filled with dinosaurs, action figures, sandwiches and mobile phone (because most kids now have one) and off they go to play for the day.
‘Our drawstring bags, perfect for storing your shoes make a great ‘girlie’ tote that they can fill with all the necessary goodies for a day in the garden with their friends. Naturally they will need to have some sparkly things with them and if it happens to be any of their friends birthday then the collection from Joma is absolutely perfect as a cute gift… but don’t forget your daughters will want them too. Good job there is a great selection at an incredible price.
And of course it would be a catastrophe if the bag didn’t include at least one (ubiquitous) Unicorn!
‘For the boys, Dinosaurs that can go into battle with giant rolling wooden dogs, easily beating the ‘action man’ collection and winning the war.
‘But of course we can’t escape the fact that most children these days are fortunate enough to head off overseas for part of their holiday. In my day my name was added to a parents passport …. now kids have their own passport, so naturally they need their own passport cover!
‘I hope this collection inspires you to encourage your children to get outside, play and enjoy the simple things in life. And don’t forget to capture the moments as and when they happen, now there is one absolute benefit of having a mobile phone on hand at all times.
‘Happy Summer Everyone”.
