Whilst channel hopping the other evening I was amazed to come across not one but two shopping channels who were having special shows dedicated to a specific time of the year. It wasn’t summer, which would seem the obvious season to be discussing, it wasn’t actually a season, it was an event that happens every year-end and involves decorating and present giving.
In the interest of sense and sensibility I am not going to mention the ‘festive’ event but I am going to talk about why I thought it interesting that TV channels were dedicating an entire day to this subject matter.
It is, as one of the presenters said, all about the planning. I get this as every year it gets to a point where panic sets in and buying for buying sake takes over from getting the perfect gift for everyone.
Was I tempted to purchase a multi pack of gift wrap and cards along with glittering, twinkling angels, reindeers and all other types of paraphernalia that make this particular time of year what it is and what we all love about it. The simple answer is no! However what it did make me think about was the planning, and the need to be more focussed this year, getting organised rather than running around desperately trying to find something last minute.
So I’ve done a list, albeit a starter list, and I have thought about gifts that will be perfect for each of the names on it. And now I have started collecting ideas from Pinterest https://uk.pinterest.com/OceanJonline/ and I’ve added the links directly to a new board in my own Pinterest account.
I have ordered a few items already from www.oceanj.co.uk as it is my go to place for gifts and they will be put away somewhere safe for the next few months. In the meantime I will continue to build my ‘gifts’ board so that when the inevitable event gets closer I am prepared and all I will have to do is hit the images that have been saved and the shopping will be more or less complete.
Now all I have to do is decide whether or not I need to order a 12’ tall LED twinkling, talking snowman for the front garden and I will be pretty much sorted.
